Firethorn tees off for a good cause

At Firethorn, we’re proud to support charitable causes that are committed to improving outcomes and opportunities for young people.

In line with this commitment, our Head of Strategic Investment, Charlie Ingham, recently attended the Kipp Popert World Invitational at The London Golf Club, as part of Firethorn’s sponsorship of the event.

Organised by the charity Variety Golf, the event raised vital funds for its Sunshine Coaches initiative, which provides minibuses to schools and organisations that cater for children with special needs.

The initiative allows schools and care centres to travel with greater confidence, and organise trips for recreational, educational, and vocational purposes – allowing young people with disabilities to explore new places, acquire new skills, and improve their self-confidence.

The inaugural World Invitational competition was hosted by Kipp Popert, the world number one disability golfer. At the event, Kipp was joined by 18 of the world’s top golf for the disabled (G4D) players – from as far afield as Australia, Cameroon, South Africa, and Canada – who played alongside attendees as Team Captains.

The event raised an incredible £100,000, which will fund three new Sunshine Coaches for selected special needs schools or children’s hospices – helping to unlock new and enriching experiences for children with disabilities.

On the day, a group of children who have been supported by the charity took part in complimentary golf lessons with PGA pro golfers, and a further three schools received their Sunshine Coach donation – allowing attendees to see the impact and importance of the charity’s fundraising first-hand.

Last year, Variety Golf donated 60 Sunshine Coaches to mark its 60th anniversary year, and the charity has put over 5,800 coaches on the road to date.

Firethorn’s Charlie Ingham, who took part in the event, commented:

“This was a special opportunity to celebrate the work of Variety Golf and support an incredibly worthwhile cause. The charity’s Sunshine Coaches initiative provides such an important resource for special needs schools and organisations, allowing young people to benefit from greater freedom and new experiences in their local community.

“It was a hugely inspiring day, and I’m so pleased that Firethorn was able to show its support.”

Firethorn’s sponsorship of the Variety Golf competition is reflective of our wider commitment to charities and initiatives that support the next generation.

As part of this, Firethorn has a three-year partnership with School of Hard Knocks, a London-based education inclusion charity working to empower young people living in challenging and complex circumstances.

Our work experience programme also helps to support the next generation of property professionals. Partner organisations include Pathways to Property and ORT JUMP, which provide early career opportunities to underrepresented young people.

As a business, we’re passionate about having a positive impact on people and places. To find out more about Firethorn’s ESG commitments, click here.
